Alexander Petrov was born in 2003 in Saint Petersburg. He began his musical studies at Children's Music School No. 38 in Saint Petersburg, where he studied piano with Irina Grishina and tuba with Eduard Yablochkin. He graduated with honors from the Secondary Special Music School of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, where he studied in the class of Associate Professor Valentin Avvakumov. Since 2021, he has continued his education at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, studying under the same teacher.
Alexander Petrov is a laureate of national and international competitions:
In 2017, he was awarded third prize at the Eighth International Competition for Solo Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments Silver Sounds, held at the A. K. Glazunov State Conservatory in Petrozavodsk.
In 2018, he received third prize at the Second International Competition for Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments Northern Rhapsody in Cherepovets.
In 2019, he won first prize at the Third International Competition Northern Rhapsody in Cherepovets, and second prize at the Sixth All-Russian Open Competition for Brass and Percussion Performers named after A. A. Nesterov in Nizhny Novgorod.
In 2023, he was awarded third prize at the Seventh All-Russian Open Competition for Brass and Percussion Performers named after A. A. Nesterov in Nizhny Novgorod, third prize at the International Music Competition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff (online), and second prize at the Tenth International Silver Sounds Competition for Solo Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments in Petrozavodsk.
He has taken part in masterclasses led by Siegfried Jung, Sérgio Carolino, Josef Bazhenka, and Fyodor Shagov. In 2020, he participated in the creative session of the Sirius Educational Center in the class of Maxim Ignatyev.
Alexander Petrov is a recipient of the Young Talents of Russia award (2021). Since 2022, he has been a member of the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Yuri Bashmet.
He has performed both as a soloist and as an orchestral musician in major concert venues of Saint Petersburg, including the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, the Saint Petersburg Academic Capella, and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia named after D. D. Shostakovich.
Since 2022, Alexander Petrov has been participating in the programs of the Saint Petersburg Music House.
