Anna Makarova was born in Leningrad. She entered аt the age of nine the Harp Class of the Secondary Special Music School at the Leningrad Conservatory. She continued her studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (Class of A. Varosyan). In 1994 she became the winner of International Harp Competition in Israel.
Since 1994 she is the soloist of the Honored Collective of Russia - St. Petersburg Philharmonic Academic Symphony Orchestra.
Her solo repertoire includes more than 20 concerts for harp and orchestra, including works by Mozart, Gliere, Hinastera, Rodrigo, Deltur and other composers.
As the member of various ensembles and as the soloist, she takes part in prestigious international festivals in Russia, Europe, USA, Latin America and China.
Since 2002, she teaches the harp at St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Among Makarova`s pupils are laureates of prestigious international competitions, soloists of Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theaters. She participates in tours of St. Petersburg Philharmonic Academic Symphony orchestra and gives master classes around the world. She is one of the founders and organizers of International Musical Project "Golden Harp" and the same competition, which takes place in the St. Petersburg Philharmonia. Classical music stars take part in this project concerts: Alexander Knyazev, Liana Isakadze, Polina Osetinskaya, Dmitry Makhtin, Federico Mondelchi, Melba Joyce. In 2014 Competition "Golden Harp" was held with great success in Buenos Aires.
In April 2011 Anna Makarova was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia.
