Dmitry Lukianov was born in Moscow in 1950. In 1969 he graduated with honors from the Ippolitov-Ivanov Musical School, in 1974 – The State Music and Teacher Training Institute (currently – The Gnessin Russian Academy of Music (Vladimir Steinman’s class). Since 1977 he has been working in the State Music and Teacher Training Institute of the Gressin Russian Academy of Music, in the department of wind and percussion instruments. From 1981 till 2003 he was the solo kettledrummer of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic.
In 2003 Dmitry Lukianov accepted an offer to head the percussion group of the Russian National Orchestra directed by Mukhail Pletnev.

Giving a due consideration to education science and methods of training of playing percussion instruments, Dmitry Lukianov creates a number of guidanceooks, collections of etudes, transcriptions of music pieces written for other instruments, and his own compositions for solo and ensemble play on percussion.
Dmitry Lukianov has participated in numerous CD recordings of leading world record companies: Deutsche Grammophon, Virgin Classics, PentaTon Classics and others.
His students include soloists and performers of top orchestras of Russia, more than 20 prize winners of All-Union, All-Russian and international contests, 15 of them are first prize winners.
Graduates of Dmitry Lukianov’s class hold top competitive positions in best orchestras of Moscow.
