Born in Leningrad. Leonid graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory and pursued his post-graduate studies (class of Professor Pavel Serebryakov). He is laureate of the 3d All-Russian Music Contest (Moscow, 1969),
professor of St. Petersburg State Conservatory, Dean of the Piano Department. In addition to teaching at the Conservatory, Leonid Zaychik holds workshops at music universities in China and South Republic, etc. Many students of Professor Zaychik became laureates and diploma winners of international competitions.
He was awarded the Order of Friendship (2009) in recognition of promotion of domestic culture and arts.
He has toured in many cities of Russia and abroad. Leonid repeatedly represented the Russian piano school as part of an international jury at prestigious contests and festivals.
