Mikhail Filimontsev was born in 2006 in Moscow. He received his initial musical education at the A. N. Alexandrov Children’s Music School, where he studied under the guidance of teacher Valentin Azarenkov. He is a graduate of the Gnessin Moscow Secondary Special School of Music (College), where he studied in the class of the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and Associate Professor Mikhail Beznosov. Since 2024, he has been a student at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, continuing his studies in the class of the same teacher.
He is a prizewinner of both national and international competitions:
In 2022:
– He was awarded the Second Prize at the IV International Competition-Festival for Young Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments named after the Gnessins (Moscow).
– He also took Third Prize at the I Saint Petersburg International Youth Competition named after M. P. Mussorgsky.
In 2023:
– He was named First Prize winner at the II All-Russian Music Competition named after D. B. Kabalevsky, held in Novokuznetsk.
In 2024:
– He was awarded the Third Prize at the All-Russian Open Youth Competition for Clarinetists and Woodwind Ensembles dedicated to the 100th anniversary of I. P. Mozgovenko (Moscow).
He has taken part in masterclasses with Sergey Yeletsky and Karel Dohnal, and has been a regular participant in the Sirius Educational Center’s programs, working with Artur Naziullin (2020), Viktor Kulyk (2021, 2023), Oleg Tantsov (2022), and Yevgeny Petrov (2024).
A recipient of a scholarship from the New Names Foundation, he also took part in the foundation’s 30th Summer School in Suzdal. Since 2024, he has performed as a member of the core ensemble of the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Bashmet.
He joined the programs of the Saint Petersburg Music House in 2025.
