Born in Moscow. Sergey Senkov graduated from the Gnesin Seven-Year Music School (class of Natalia Yurlova (1969)), Music College at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory (class of Rafail Chernov (1973)), Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory (class of People's Artist of the USSR, Professor Tatyana Nikolaeva (1978)), and assistant traineeship at the Gnesins State Musical Pedagogical Institute (class of Professor Theodor Gutman (1983)).
Sergey Senkov is a representative of the world famous Russian piano school, a student and follower of prominent Russian pianists and educators: People's Artist of the USSR, State Prize Laureate Tatyana Petrovna Nikolaeva (student of Alexander Goldenweiser) and Professor Theodor Davidovich Gutman (student of Heinrich Neuhaus).
He has a busy concert schedule in Russia and abroad, he is a winner of all-Union piano competitions (1977, 1983). He recorded a series of CDs with piano pieces by Rachmaninoff, Mozart and Ravel (1991–2003).
Sergey Senkov serves as vice-president at the Scriabin Foundation, leads the scientific work of the Foundation. He is a regular participant of training seminars, scientific conferences, workshops in Russia, the UK, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Mexico, South Korea and other countries, serves on the jury of national and international music competitions. Sergei Senkov gives performances with his students in the Museum-Estate of Sergey Rachmaninoff "Ivanovka” on a regulary basis.
His research interests are related to the problems of piano performance. In 1991, he defended his thesis “Specificity of Style and Problems of Interpretation of Piano Sonatas and Variations of Sergey Rachmaninoff.” He is the author of numerous articles dedicated to the legacy of S. V. Rachmaninoff and A. N. Scriabin, the editor and compiler of collections of scientific articles dedicated to performing interpretation, music education and culture.
