Semyon Shchetinin was born in the year 2004 in the city of Krasnoyarsk. He began his musical education at Children’s School of Arts No. 8, where he studied first under the instruction of teacher Arseny Vizer and later under Marina Alyanchikova. He graduated from the Gnessin Moscow Middle Special Music School (College), where he studied under the guidance of teacher Ilya Bachurin. Since the year 2024, he has been a student at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, where he is studying under the direction of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and Professor Dmitry Lukyanov.
He is a laureate of national and international competitions:
2020 – the First Prize at the III International Competition for Percussion Performers “Drumtime” (Saint Petersburg).
2021 – the Third Prize at the VIII International Festival-Competition of Percussion Instruments, Percussionists, Majorette Drummers, Marching and Wind Orchestras “Drum Wave” (Saint Petersburg).
2022 – the First Prize at the IV International Competition for Percussion Performers (Saint Petersburg).
2024 – the Second Prize at the IV All-Russian Music Competition in the category “Percussion Instruments” (Moscow).
He has participated in masterclasses conducted by Nebojša Jovan Živković, Mark Glennworth, Adi Morag, Dmitry Nilov, Andrey Volosovsky, Andrey Pushkarev, David Friedman, Rostislav Sharoyevsky, Ilya Melikhov, Mikhail Putkov, Vladimir Terekhov, and Bogdan Bokan.
He is a scholarship recipient of the “New Names” Foundation and took part in the XXX Summer Creative School “New Names” (2022, Suzdal, Vladimir Region). He is a recipient of the First-Degree Grant of the Mayor of Moscow (2022) and was awarded the Third Prize in the “Young Talents of Russia” program (2023).
