Roman Markelov (saxophone)

SOLOIST OF JUNE 2018. INTERVIEW.

Born in 1994 in Belaya Kalitva, Rostov region. Roman finished Arts School No. 16 in Voronezh (class by Igor Voronin). He studied at the Voronezh Rostropovich Musical College with the same  teacher. A graduate  of  the Gnessin College  under the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music (class by associate professor Leonid Drutin). Graduated from the Gnessin Academy (class by the People's Artist of Russia, Professor Margarita Shaposhnikova). Currently is a postgraduate student of the Cologne University of Music (class of Professor Daniel Gauthier).

Laureate of international competitions:
2011 – winner of the International  Competition for Soloists, Musicians on Wind and Percussion Instruments "Silver Sounds" (Petrozavodsk). Laureate of the II prize at the International Competition-Festival of  Performing Arts "Union of Golden Talents " (Zheleznogorsk).
2014 – winner of the Competition-Festival "Piano in Jazz" (Moscow).
2015 – winner of  II International competition «The Voice of the saxophone in the modern world» (Moscow)
2016 – winner of the XV Youth Delphic Games of Russia (Tyumen) and XI Youth Delphic Games of the CIS member states (Moscow).
2017 – winner of the XVI Youth Delphic Games of Russia (Yekaterinburg).
2022 - laureate and owner of the special prize for the best performance of a contemporary piece at the XVI International Aeolus Wind Competition (Düsseldorf)

He has an award of the Government of Voronezh region for outstanding achievements in educational and creative activity (2012). Participant od the St.Petersburg Music House programs since 2015.
