Born 1960 in Leningrad. In 1983, graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov (class by professors Vladimir Nilsen and Galina Fedorova), while in 1986, from the graduate school with the Conservatory.
Award-winner of the Russian National Young Pianist Competition (Yaroslavl, 1988) and Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition (Santander, Spain, 1990).
At the age of 18, debuted at the Grand Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic Society with Sergei Prokofiev’s First Concerto. Since then, he has been actively performing with concert tours in Russia and other countries: in Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, South Korea and Latvia. He has been performing solo, with orchestras, and as a member of chamber orchestras. Plays a broad repertoire, from the baroque epoch pieces, to the works by the contemporary composers.
Premier performer of a number of pieces by Sergei Slonimsky, Arnold Nevolovich and a number of others; participant of the Russian premier performance of the Piano Sextet by Krzysztof Penderecki. In 2003, has been awarded a grant by the “Russian Performer Art” Foundation, while in 2007, a title of the honorary member of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Society.
Alexander Sandler is one of the leading professors of Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He has trained a constellation of concert pianists, award-winners of international contests, who won over 20 first prizes. In 2007m Myroslav Kultyshev, Sandler’s student, became the winner of the 13th International P.I. Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
The musician is an award panel member of international pianist contests in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Helsinki, Kiev, Saint-Sebastien and Riga. Regularly conducts master classes in Russia, Slovenia, South Korea and Baltic countries. As a professor, has been invited to the Unniversity of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada).
Since 2006, Alexander Sandler has been actively cooperating with Saint Petersburg Music House. In 2008, became the winner of the award by Saint Petersburg Music House and Rossiya Joint-Stock Bank “For outstanding achievements in training concert performers.”
