Honoured Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation
Boris Estrin was born in Leningrad in 196. He graduated from the St. Petersburg N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music in 1980 and from the Leningrad State Conservatory in 1988, where he studied with professor A.V. Ivanov.
He worked in the Orchestra of the Mussorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre.
In 1985, he began teaching at the Saint Petersburg Lyceum of Arts, where he has worked to the present day.
Since 2019, he has also tought percussion at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov.
In 1999, he was awarded the Saint Petersburg Governor's Award "For the Humanisation of the School".
In 2005, he was awarded the badge of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation "For Achievement in Culture".
In 2007, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Culture Worker of the Russian Federation.
In 2011, he was awarded the Ministry of Culture's prize "The Best Children's School of Arts Teacher".
He is a jury member in international competitions in Russia and abroad. He regularly conducts professional training courses for teachers of children's schools of music and children's schools of arts in Saint Petersburg. He runs workshops and open tutorials in various regions of Russia and abroad. In 2013, he founded the Regional Public Organisation "Saint Petersburg Community of Percussion Teachers and Performers" and chairs the board of the organisation.
He is a member of the bureau of the brass and percussion section at the Training and Methodology Centre of the Saint Petersburg Committee for Culture.
He has been a teacher for almost 40 years. He has educated a plethora of professional musicians, including more than 70 winners of international and national competitions.
