Marianna was born to a family of St. Petersburg musicians. She learned at the School of the St. Petersburg Conservatoire (class of professor Vladimir Ovcharek), then at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna (by Dora Schwarzberg) and since 2007, at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne (by Zakhar Bron).
Laureate of international competitions:
1997 - winner at the international competition “Virtuosos 2000” (St. Petersburg)
1997 - winner at the Shostakovich international competition in Hanover (Germany),
2000 - winner at the Glazunov international competition (Paris).
2001 - winner at the International LOUIS SPOHR Competition for Young Violinists in Weimar ( also won the main prize at this competition, a violin).
2009 - winner at the Heinrich Wieniawski Violin Competition in Lublin (Poland).
2010 The first prize of the Prague Spring Violin Competition, (Czech Republic).
Vladimir Spivakov invited Marianna to participate in his festival in Colmar (France).
Marianna is supported by such major international organizations as the G. von Karayan Foundation, the Vladimir Spivakov Foundation, the Russian Performing Arts Foundation and the Russian Violin Art Foundation.
Her performances are held in the top halls of Russia, Europe, USA, Canada and China. She works with such famous musicians as Vladimir Ashkenazi, Yuri Bashmet, Alexander Rudin, Vladimir Ziva and others. Her repertoire not only covers practically all classical violin pieces, but also includes many contemporary composers' masterpieces. She also shows herself as a chamber musician.
Marianna Vasilyeva has records on CD, DVD, radio and television. In 2008, Delos released the CD “Two Violins”, recorded together with Dmitry Kogan.
