The Moscow Trio is one of the oldest chamber music ensembles in Russia. The group was created in 1968 at the Moscow Conservatory in the chamber ensemble class of Prof. T.A. Gaidamovich. The permanent member of the trio is a pianist Alexander Bonduryansky. In its current lineup, the Moscow Trio has been performing since 1976.
The trio scored a deserved success with its very first performances at the following international competitions: Munich 1969 – 2nd prize; Belgrade, 1972 – 1st prize and all special prizes; win at the “Interforum” international festival in Budapest (1975); Gold Ravel Medal at the “Musical May” festival in Bordeaux (1976).
The Moscow Trio is rightfully considered one of the leading world-class chamber music ensembles. Critics from many countries have given a glowing account of the musicians’ skills. For example, in Germany they believe that “this musical ensemble belongs to the chamber music ensembles elite of the world”. The Hungarian press notes that “consistency in the playing of the musicians has attained perfection”. The Italian audience was conquered by the Russian artists’ “passionate musicality”. The Music Review newspaper has called them the “Ensemble of 1997”.
Thanks to the “Moscow Trio”, the once forgotten triple concerto genre accompanied by a symphony orchestra has been revived in the philharmonic repertoire. The Concerts by A. Tchaikovsky, A. Nikolayev and S. Berinsky dedicated to the ensemble and performed by it for the the first time they have been added to the compositions by Beethoven, Casella, Martin and Tcherepnin that have already become classical. In 2000, the ensemble along with the State Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Ponkin recorded the Symphony No. 4 “In Memory of Departed Friends” for the trio and Berinsky symphony orchestra.
The touring geography of the “Moscow Trio” includes hundreds of cities in Russia, the former Soviet Union and more than 40 far-abroad countries - from Argentina to Japan, and from Norway to Jordan. The ensemble is the participant of prestigious music festivals in Moscow (“Art-November”), St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Florence, Berlin, Dubrovnik, Sofia, Varna, Belfast, Belgrade, Ohrid, Prague, and Ludwigsburg.
With extensive solo repertoire, the artists often perform both in and outside Russia, both with solo programs and in ensemble with symphony orchestra.
