He was born in Piryatin, Poltava Oblast. From 1966 to 1970 he studied at the Zhytomyr musical сollege in the french horn class. From 1970 to 1975 he studied at the Rostov Musical and Pedagogical Institute on the french horn (Class of Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Professor Igor Artemyev). From 1972 to 1974 he was the soloist of Rostov Theatre of Musical Comedy Orchestra. From 1974 to 1991 he was the soloist and accompanist of horn group in Rostov Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra. From 1991 to 1995 he was the soloist and accompanist of horn group at the Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Veronika Dudarova.
In 1993 he was awarded with the title of "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation", awarded with Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Diploma of the Moscow City Committee for Culture, Diploma of the MEPO and MK "Association of Classical Heritage" and he is the Member of Moscow Musical Society.
From 1995 to 2000 he was the soloist of "Russian Philharmonia" Symphony Orchestra.
Since 1997, Vladimir Shish has been working at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music as the French horn class teacher.
In 2004 he was a professor at the Maimonides State Classical Academy. Since 2005, he is the Professor of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music.Since 2011 Vladimir Shish is the Professor of Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, since 2012 - the head of the department of Brass Instruments Division.
Vladimir Shish is one of the leading musicians among the performers on the French horn and the highly professional, experienced teacher, a worthy follower of French horn coryphaeuses. He implements in his students all accumulated knowledges and skills, as well as his own concepts of pedagogical work. Over the years of teaching, he has trained many excellent performers, laureates of international and national competitions, who are working in the best orchestras in Moscow and Russia.
