The tour of the Swedish Brass Band to Russia in 2010-2011 was organized by Saint Petersburg Music House jointly with the performances of young Russian soloists in Stockholm.
Swedish Brass Band (Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra)
The ensemble was Initially called "Spårvägsmäns Musikkår" and was funded by the SL tram company. The ensemble was founded in 1906 and consisted of only 6 people, most of whom were bus and tram drivers. Today 40 best professional wind musicians, four percussionists and a bassist are involved in the orchestra. The Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra participates annually in a number of famous annual events, such as the Last night of the Proms concert (for about 20 years), in a summer performance of "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff in the main square of Stockholm, in the old town, and at the famous "St. Lucia concert" held in December in the building of Stockholm Globe Arena.
Since 1985, the orchestra has been regularly working with the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm providing an opportunity for young conductors to work with the professional orchestra on a regular basis.
In October 2005, the Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra did for the first time a concerto with Christian Lindberg as Chief Conductor.
In 2006, the Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 100th anniversary and is one of the oldest such-like orchestras in the world.
In 2011, The Swedish Wind Ensemble obtained control over the Hall of the Royal Academy at Lake Malaren in central Stockholm, where they have created the unusual musical cultural center "Musikaliska", at which musicians of different ages and trends can meet and work together.
