Aleksey Tikhonov was born in Valday, Novgorod Region, in 1949. In 1969 he finished the Novgorod Musical College (class of Dmitry Romanov), and in 1977 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory (class of professor Valery Bezrushenko, Honored Artist of RSFSR).
Between 1969 and 1996 Aleksey Tikhonov was a soloist in the orchestra of the Leningrad Military District headquarters.
Since 1977, the musician has been a clarinet teacher in the Mussorgsky Music College, Saint-Petersburg, since 1993 – Head of the winds and percussions department in the same College.
Aleksey Tikhonov was awarded ‘For humanization of Saint-Petersburg School’ sign by the Saint-Petersburg Government.
Since 2006, he has been a saxophone teacher in the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory.
Today Aleksey Tikhonov gives master-classes both in Saint-Petersburg and different regions of Russia within the well-known projects of the Saint-Petersburg Music House (Higher Music Performance Courses, River of Talents, Embassy of Musical Mastery).
Among his pupils, we can find the following names of the successful, talented young musicians participating inter alia in the programs of the Saint-Petersburg Music House: Dmitry Kuzichev, Sergey Tsvetkov, Julia Drukh, and Pyotr Shevchenko.
