Honored Artist of Russia, Professor
Born in 1946 in Orenburg. He began studying music at the Orenburg Palace of Pioneers in the Class of Isaac Ostrin. In 1965 he graduated at the Orenburg Music College (Class of Alexei Krumgant and Anatoly Simonov). He is a Graduate of Gnessin SMPI (Class of People's Artist of Russia, Professor Timofei Dokshitzer).
Over the period from 1965 to 2006 he was a Soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. Besides his engagement in the orchestra he has toured extensively as a trumpet soloist, the first performer of Russian composers` pieces. He is a Member of "Moscow Quartet of Trumpeters" and Ensemble Soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre conducted by Alexander Lazarev. Over 20 years Brass Quintet Bolshoi Theatre, founded by Vyacheslav Prokopov, has been toured around the world and participated in numerous radio and TV recordings.
From 1970 to present - Professor of Trumpet at the Gnesin RMA, Schnittke MSIM, Ippolitova-Ivanov SMPI, Gnesin MSSMS, Blazhevich MSCMS and State College Of Brass Art.
Since 2000, he is the Head of Brass and Percussion Instruments Department at the Gnesin RMA and Honorary Professor of the Yerevan Conservatory.
Among the V. Prokopov students are more than a hundred highly trumpeters, who are playing in the best orchestras in Russia, CIS and foreign countries. Among them, there are 26 winners of various music competitions.
Vyacheslav Prokopov over a many years holds open lessons, master classes, skills classes both in Russia and abroad. He is a Jury Member of many National and International Competitions.
In 1987, Publishing House "Muzika" released "Etudes of Foreign Composers" under his editorship. He is a Chairman of the Association of Wind Instrument Musicians of the Central House of Artists. Since 2004, he is a President of the Russian Guild of Trumpeters.
