Pavel Sokolov was born in Moscow in 1975. He graduated from the Moscow Specialized Secondary School of Music with S. Burdukov and the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music with Professor I. Pushechnikov. Later he pursued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany, with Professor Gernot Schmalfus. He won the first prize award at the All-Russian Woodwind Competition in St. Petersburg (1994), the Richard Lauschmann Competition in Mannheim, Germany (1999) and the SONY International Oboe Competition in Tokyo (2000).
In Germany, he was concertmaster of the oboe group with the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin and the Komische Oper orchestra. He has collaborated with such orchestras as the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin, the Hamburg Opera, the Symphony Orchestra of Southwest Radio Germany, and the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera. From 2009 to 2014, he was a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (Norway). At the same time he was teaching at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
In 2014 Pavel Sokolov joined the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Shostakovich Philharmonic, Honored Ensemble of Russia.
As a soloist he has performed with such ensembles as the Sinfonietta Köln, Orchester Jeunesses Musicales, RIAS Jugendorchester Berlin, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Karuizawa Arts Festival Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Yaroslavl Philharmonic Orchestra and Novosibirsk Chamber Orchestra. He is a permanent soloist with the Consortium Classisum chamber ensemble (Germany), with which he has recorded three CDs.
He has given master classes at the International Karuizava Arts Festival and International Music Festival Kirishima (Japan), Branimir Slokar Academy (Slovenia) and Valdres Sommersymfoni (Norway).
At present he is actively engaged in solo, orchestral, ensemble and teaching activities, he is lecturer at the Musorgsky College of Music in St. Petersburg.
